Thrash Metal is Alive: Power Trip

The Dallas Texas thrash metal band Power Trip hadn’t been on my radar, but I had heard the band’s name circulated across friends after the release of their most recent album, Nightmare Logic. Well after checking them out at the show last night I’ve got to say, I’m officially a fan. These boys play hard and have riffs that kept my attention and my head banging. I couldn’t tell who had more energy, Power Trip or the crowd. Their songs were explosive and left the air begging for a pit of carnage. Too often I hear a band whose riffs and drums get my blood pumping, but once the vocals come in it loses steam to high pitch whininess. This did not happen with Power Trip! Lead singer Riley Gale matches the band to a T with his deep snarly voice. It’s honestly a match made in hell and I couldn’t be happier.

These guys are honestly one true to the bones thrash metal band and prove that the genre still has plenty of life left. I can’t wait to see what they do next. If you get a chance I highly recommend checking out their newest album Nightmare logic. Personal favorite songs: Executioners tax (swing of the axe), Firing Squad, and Crucifixation.
