Benjamin Shepherd
Benjamin Shepherd
Born in Nashville, Tennessee, Benjamin Shepherd spent his first years surrounded by bar bands and country music (his father played bass and guitar regularly around the city). His family moved to the Washington DC suburbs of Northern Virginia in the 90's where he learned to play guitar on a one-of-a-kind acoustic built by his uncle. After moving to Richmond at 18, he began composing original songs inspired largely by late 90's Pacific NW indie rock and classic rock 'n' roll records. A few years later, after discovering an affinity for the folk revival of the 60's and contemporary singer-songwriters, he moved to New York City to perform solo and found the Antifolk scene in the East Village where honesty and content seemed to be the focus, and form and execution were secondary.

Having lived between Richmond and New York in the last decade, and beginning and ending with various other bands along the way, Shepherd recorded "Eleven For The Road," a live performance captured at Montrose Recording, in 2014. This was a return to the solo form that he'd been honing years earlier and it would become his first studio LP. He's since recorded a new album of full band arrangements with the help of Kevin Guild (Southside Stranglers, Diamond Hairbrush), Tyler Williams (The Head And The Heart), Charlie Glenn (The Trillions, Thao & The Get Down Stay Down), and Adrian Olsen (Avers, Hypercolor) to be released spring 2019. The first single, Friday Fantasy, is out now.
The Trillions
The Trillions
Richmond, Virginia based The Trillions siphon sounds from their favorite high-intensity bands: some pop wizardry from The Strokes, big-and-loud drums from Led Zeppelin and The Who, a dose of bombastic shred and guitar feedback from Pinkerton-era Weezer, smears of vocal attitude from The Buzzcocks, all drizzled with some topical lyrics and harmonies à la The Beatles, The Zombies, or Dr. Dog. In 2013, they were named as one of Virginia's top 12 bands you should listen to now by Paste magazine. The band recently toured with J Roddy Walston and the Business. That tour included a sold out show at New York's famous Bowery Ballroom, as well as, sold out shows in Boston and Richmond. Since 2010, the band has also opened up for national touring acts such as The Head and The Heart, Girl Talk, Best Coast, Motion City Soundtrack, Thao & The Get Down Stay Down, Jukebox the Ghost, and many others. The Trillions feature Charlie Glenn (guitar, vocals), Chris Smith (guitar, vocals), Robbie King (bass) and Joe Ferguson (drummer).
